Dr. Imogen Ashdown writes notes at her desk

Meet Dr. Imogen Ashdown

I would rather look at every inch of your skin once a year than guess about one spot.

Dr. Ashdown opened Coquina Dermatology in 2011. Most of her day is skin checks, psoriasis and eczema, and she plans every cosmetic treatment herself.

Also on the team

  • Caio Barros, physician assistant, a man in his mid thirties with short dark curly hair and a trimmed beard, in a white coatCaio Barros, PA-C

How this practice works

  • A full skin check, head to toe

Scalp to soles. We photograph moles to watch, so next year compares the same spot.

  • Medical care comes first

Most of our week is medical. Cosmetic visits run on Tuesday evenings.

  • Biopsy results from a person

A provider calls you with the result and what comes next.

  • Cost before the visit

We check your coverage before you come. Cosmetic prices come at the consult.

Questions patients ask

A receptionist in sage scrubs on the phone at the front desk

Do you take my insurance?

We accept Medicare and most plans from Aetna, Cigna, Florida Blue and UnitedHealthcare. Call us with your plan and we will check it.

Is cosmetic treatment covered by insurance?

No. Cosmetic treatment is self-pay. Insurance often covers a skin check when you have a spot of concern or a history of skin cancer. Some plans, including Original Medicare, do not cover a routine screening check when you have no symptoms.

Do you see children?

We see teenagers from age 12. A parent or guardian comes to the first visit and signs a written consent form. For younger children we can suggest a pediatric dermatologist.

Do you speak Spanish or Portuguese?

Yes. Dr. Ashdown speaks Spanish, and Caio Barros, PA-C, speaks Portuguese. Tell us when you book.
